Introduction
01
The University-Industry Research Consortium on sustainability of tropical (limestone) karst landscape intends to enrich the knowledge on the Sustainability Science of the country’s vital earth resources from the perspective of balancing resource needs and the importance of preserving natural heritage.
The vision of the consortium has been led by industry, particularly YTL Cement to encourage multi- and trans-disciplinary research through applied research and postgraduates.
The first programme to implement this vision is the Postgraduate Programme, based on a smart partnership between JPT-KPT and YTL-Cement, and the collaboration of five Malaysian public universities. The industry provides a matching grant to double the number of MyBrain 2.0 scholarships.

Why Tropical Limestone
Karst
Landscape?
Limestone hills or tropical karst landscapes that are unique and beautiful, often attract public attention. The karst landscape is also very rich in biological, historical and archaeological heritage. The presence of karst landscapes in Malaysia is very limited, less than 3% and its use as an important construction and industrial resource causes resource utilisation to face continuous conflicts between industry players and the public.
This research allows multi-dimensional information to be used by planners and policy makers to determine the suitability of resources for heritage conservation or sustainable utilisation. YTL Cement has a responsibility to ensure the sustainability of the Tropical Limestone Karst Landscape continues to be preserved, while the country’s competitiveness continues to be maintained.

Postgraduate Degree
Scholarship
The Postgraduate Degree Scholarship is a pilot programme that will be implemented in five years (2023-2028). This programme involves a smart collaboration between YTL Cement and JPT based on a matching grant for the MyBrain 2.0 scholarship. Through the MoU, JPT agrees to provide a number of scholarships each year, especially for postgraduate research in various fields to explore knowledge about the sustainability of the tropical limestone karst landscape.
YTL Cement is prepared to provide a matching grant to double the number of postgraduate students undertaking these important researches. To ensure that this scholarship attracts excellent students and supervisors, the Postgraduate Scholarship will be supplemented with supervision funding and a special study fund, especially for field research.
To ensure that only outstanding and dedicated students receive this scholarship, a Scientific Committee consisting of field experts and representatives of JPT-KPT, as well as leading universities of the University- Industry Consortium, will make the selection after the candidates have received their respective places of study.
